About Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski
Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski is the first higher educational institution in Bulgaria. It was founded on October 1, 1888.
The edifice of the university was constructed between 1924 and 1934, and is one of the most remarkable pieces of art and architecture in Sofia. The building was done with the financial support of the famous Bulgarian merchants, bankers and benefactors – the brothers Evlogi Georgiev and Hristo Georgiev. Their sculptures are now featured on its façade.
The edifice has an area of 18,624 m², and a total of 324 premises. Sofia University has 16 faculties and three departments educating over 21,000 students.
In its territory of 110,994 square kilometers Bulgaria gathers high mountains, green forests, golden beaches, impressive architecture, unique culture and even more unique people. Bulgaria is one of the oldest countries in Europe and the only one that has not changed its name since its establishment in 681. It has a rich and interesting history, full of both tragic and glorious moments.
Today all Bulgarians are proud of the fact that more than 300 million people use the Cyrillic script, based on the early Cyrillic alphabet, which was developed in the First Bulgarian Empire. Bulgaria keeps the oldest gold treasure in the world, which dates back from 4,600 BC to 4,200 BC and discovered at the Varna Necropolis.
Apart from this, Bulgaria is the country of roses, whose petals produce as much as 85% of the world’s rose oil. It is a very valuable material, because it is an essential ingredient in the production of perfumes, including the famous Chanel 5.
Bulgaria is also the home place of the most delicious yogurt. The secret of its unique taste is the bacteria Lactobacillus bulgaricus, which can only be found naturally in Bulgarian air. The local cuisine definitely impresses each guest of the country. The delicious food and the hospitality of the people are the perfect combination for an unforgettable experience in Bulgaria.
The country offers not only many adventures, but also a lot of business opportunities. Today Bulgaria is a member state of the European Union and NATO and is strengthening its position as a modern and developed country.
