About Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski

Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski is the first higher educational institution in Bulgaria. It was founded on October 1, 1888.

The edifice of the university was constructed between 1924 and 1934, and is one of the most remarkable pieces of art and architecture in Sofia. The building was done with the financial support of the famous Bulgarian merchants, bankers and benefactors – the brothers Evlogi Georgiev and Hristo Georgiev. Their sculptures are now featured on its façade.

The edifice has an area of 18,624 m², and a total of 324 premises. Sofia University has 16 faculties and three departments educating over 21,000 students.
